Last night after dinner I took Olivia to her preschool open house. She has watched the big kids go to school every day this week and has been not-so-patiently awaiting her turn. Needless to say, she was THRILLED to meet her teachers and see her classroom last night. She even insisted we take her backpack along.
She walked right into her room without hesitation and introduced herself happily to her teachers ("I AM O-LIV-EEEE-AH!"). She picked out her name (the only letter she recognizes is 'O' and since there are no other O-names in her class, she did so rather quickly) and put it up on the board. She then spent the majority of the time in the play kitchen and dining room before heading over to make a monkey puppet.
She quickly charmed the teachers and they were all impressed with how much she talked...and talked...and talked. When asked how old she was, she replied, "Ummm...ONE...no....I'm FIVE! Is that right, momma?" When I reminded her she was only TWO, she smiled and said, "Oh...silly me!"
It looks like she is going to have a great time on Tuesday and Thursday mornings playing games, meeting new friends, reading books, and finally...FINALLY going to school (seriously, for her at has seemed like a very long wait!).
I don't remember either Allie or Zach being quite as social as Olivia (although Allie was definitely a social butterfly...and still is) and I've oftentimes felt a little silly about sending Olivia to preschool so early. But, after seeing her in her classroom last night, I know without a doubt we made the right decision for her. This little gal, even at two (almost three), is ready to take on the world....
