MN State Fair 2014

It's that time again...FAIR TIME!

Although I love the MN State Fair (and have ever since we went 11 years ago), it is always a little bittersweet...the one last summer "hurrah" before the school year begins.  We made sure to hit up all of our favorites yesterday:  the giant slide, the sky ride, the animals, the kids' farm, the Disney Radio booth, the pet barn, the DNR exhibit and fire tower, the Home Depot booth, and more.

Allie volunteered to be a contestant in a Radio Disney game and won a yo-yo and a t-shirt!

Our Little Farm Hands aren't so little anymore!

ahhh...the hats....all the hats!

And of course we had our ample share of Fair food.  The absolute must haves included Sweet Martha's cookies, mini donuts, and the roasted corn.  We amazingly skipped our annual pronto pup corn dogs in favor of subpar hamburgers (a mistake we won't make again), but it was pretty hot so we will claim the heat played a factor in our decision to park and eat here:

After lots of lemonade and a break in the shade to watch the daily parade, we came upon the best fair find this year...the Mineapple pie with vanilla and cinnamon ice cream.  This deep fried apple pie was sheer perfection.  It may even be my new favorite Fair food...I definitely wish I wouldn't have offered to share with everyone!

After a full day of fun (and sweat and legs that felt like jello from all the walking), it was time to head home.  We lasted until about 4:00 pm this year...a new fair record!  It seems as the kids get older, the length of our stay at the fairgrounds increases.

Another great year at the Great MN Get Together!

Osh Kosh Day!

While the guys were away at the game.......

After the splash pad and grocery store trip, we indulged in Mexican food--YUM!  Then, the girls stayed up late for Barbie movie night and popcorn.  We didn't stay awake long enough to see the guys come home...maybe next time!

We spent all day Saturday in Oshkosh and had fun at a local park.

After an early dinner and the best cupcakes EVER, it was time to head home.  Thanks for a great weekend Stephanie and Chris!

Game Time!

This past weekend Ben and Zach had the opportunity to attend their very first Green Bay Packers Game at Lambeau Field thanks to my brother-in-law.  Even though it was only a pre-season game, the anticipation of seeing Aaron Rodgers play was excitement enough for Zach.

Chris' Dad, Uncle Chris B, Ben, and Zach all ready to cheer on the Pack
Typically if there is a lot of walking involved, Zach is one of the first ones to voice his "concern," however, Ben said there were no complaints whatsoever on Friday...especially once they arrived on hallowed ground....

They ate dinner prior to the game and Zach proclaimed his burger the best he's ever eaten!  I'm sure it had nothing to do with the fact that the entire restaurant was decked out in Packer everything and was right across the street from Lambeau.

Before the game, Ben and Zach made sure to check out the stadium and pose for some photos.  Apparently after browsing through all the Packer merchandise at the pro-shop, Zach told Ben that they needed to leave because he was "getting a bad case of the gimmes!"  He did leave with a magazine full of facts about the history of the Packers and Lambeau Field.

Throughout the game, Zach watched through his binoculars, and was even thrilled to finally get a glimpse of Aaron Rodgers.  He was determined to make it through the entire game, but once 10:00 pm rolled around, fatigue began to get the best of him.

But, the guys could leave early knowing the Packers had a pretty good lead over the Raiders.  Zach claims to be their good luck charm because the Packers have won both games he's ever attended.

The next morning Zach was full of stories to tell us about his time at Lambeau....and he pretty much hasn't stopped talking about it since.  What a fun way to kick-off the fall football season!  Thanks, Uncle Chris for the invitation and a great guys' night!

Children's Museum

Last week, we took advantage of our discounted tickets and "No Group Tuesday" and spent the morning at the Children's Museum.  We spent most of our time in the ant hill and creating thunderstorms on the third floor.  The kids also enjoyed making paper, using the conveyor belts, and playing with the water and bubbles.  We even stopped by and said 'hello' to Thomas!

We absolutely could not leave without face paint!  The girls handled their own face paint, but Zach insisted I help him with the perfect football and Green Bay Packer G.

Biking Beauties

A favorite pastime this summer:  evening bike rides around our court.  Good thing we won't have to give that up when school starts next week!

Olivia Playing Catch

Either she needs more practice or she inherited my complete lack of talent at any and all sports involving a ball.

Valley Fair Trip

Last week my mom and I took the kids to Valley Fair for the first time.  Since we arrived before the park opened, we made a donut stop to fuel up for our day.  The kids were excited for a fun day, even though they weren't quite sure what to expect!

Zach was pumped for the dinosaurs and after the first carousel ride, Olivia and Allie couldn't wait to ride EVERYTHING!

We definitely had fun exploring the park, riding rides, meeting the characters, eating corndogs and ice cream, and picking out souvenirs.

Allie and I waiting after we got stuck on her very first big roller coaster.  I took her on the biggest coaster in the park (because there was no wait) and after screaming "SOMEONE GET ME OFF OF HERE!" all the way down the first drop, she confided in me that it was a little too scary and she'd like to stick to the smaller less crazy coasters.

We spent ALL day at the park, despite the heat and our feet becoming tired from all the walking.  We didn't even have time to explore the water park...maybe next year...because, yes, the kids are already planning on our return!
